Eleni Sanikou is a professional painter and tutor of adults and children. She was born in Athens, Greece. While still at school she had private lessons by two prominent Greek painters.

In England she studied drawing and painting at St Martin’s School of Art (London), history of art at Ashridge (Herefordshire), clay modelling and print making at Morley College (London).

In Paris she worked with Gregory Mazurovsky, Thomas Wienk and at the Atelier Mc Avoy. She has exhibited in Paris, London and Athens and participated in group exhibitions. She has works in many parts of the world: the UK, France, Italy and Greece.

She is the founder of the educational trust Bio-Art which set up an art school for the children of Patmos (island of the Greek Aegean Sea). Her paintings emerge from an impulse to represent a particular moment rather than a need to build a special brand.

From her experience as a teacher she believes that everyone can draw if they are exposed to the medium. This has resulted in the publication of NAKED OR NUDE a book that urges one to crack the blind spot in order to embark on a path of discovery and creation.

Patmos, the island of the Apocalypse, with its monasteries, nunneries and chapels inspired a series of symbolist paintings, followed by a period marked by the visual celebration of the Aegean sea, the translucent light and atmosphere.

As awareness of environmental issues became acute she moved to the area of Ancient Olympia to set up an experimental research centre for natural cultivation and wild life protection.

The lush landscape of South Western Greece offers a new subject for exploration: the Mediterranean light on forest trees, rivers and plants.

She divides her time between London and Olympia.
